FISHING
Lake fishing, river fishing, surf fishing… what’s your taste?
The clean, clear waters of the Gippsland Lakes and river systems at Paynesville, Metung, Lakes Entrance, Lake Tyers, Marlo, Bemm River, Tamboon, Gipsy Point and Mallacoota will reward you with bream, mullet, flathead, luderick and trevally. And, if you're lucky, even the mulloway!
Bairnsdale on the Mitchell River and the nearby trio of townships — Nicholson on the Nicholson River, and Johnsonville and Swan Reach on the Tambo River are all popular world class river fishing spots for bream, from shore or boat.
From Orbost through to Mallacoota you will cross paths with the Snowy, Brodribb, Cann, Bemm, Genoa and Wallagaraugh Rivers. Here you'll find some amazing spots to drop a line for trout and seasonal perch.
Start at the mountain streams around Dargo, Dinner Plain, Omeo, Anglers Rest, Benambra, and Delegate River for trout by both line and fly. Absorb the atmosphere as you wait for that first bite.
Let the waves roll around your feet as you surf fish for salmon, tailor, shark, flathead and trevally along the famous Ninety Mile Beach, beautiful Cape Conran Coastal Park or the Wilderness Coast of Croajingolong National Park. Offshore fishing for tuna or marlin provides high-end challenge!
